Drama I Families!
Last month, the whole class auditioned and were cast in a short play called, The Princess and the Princess, which we will perform for a Summit View class in the next few weeks. This month, we learned about Costume Design and how it relates to character development, and chose costumes for the show. The class also read about prop design and how it enhances the storyline of a play. The group has had to deal with some last minute casting changes and handled it like professionals. I am very pleased to see that they are starting to take risks on stage as their characters and are really beginning to think like actors and making deeper character connections.
I am hoping to perform the first full week of May and will let families know the date and time if they are able to make it!

Drama II Families!
This month, the group is still in the rehearsal process for their student-directed, whole-class performance of Anonymous. We are just finishing up memorizing the show, which has been a challenge for some of the cast, since there are lots of monologues involved and long periods of time in between lines. We will start working with props in the next week or so and shoot for a performance in the next few weeks. This has been a slightly difference experience for much of the class, since they play several characters throughout the show, meaning they have had to create multiple developed characters. The ambiguous nature of the play has also been a challenge, since they have had to think outside of the box for ways to show subtext and their character traits. The cast will be wearing masks throughout the show, forcing them to rely on their physical choices to show emotion and personality, as opposed to just emoting with their faces. I am excited to see the final product in a few short weeks. Stay turned for a performance date and time, as families will be welcome to attend if they can make it! |
Stagecraft Families
The Stagecraft classes are in the final hurried stages of finishing the technical elements for the Spring Play, A Murder is Announced by Agatha Christie. Set and paint crews are working hard at making the set look as much like a traditional Victorian home as possible, adding period appropriate details that pull all the elements together, but often test their patience. Wardrobe and props crews have the challenge of finding late 1940's appropriate costume and set dressing pieces. Alterations and last minute choices are underway! Lights crew has been at a bit of a standstill due to some work happening in our light booth, so they have been working on organizing our electrical room to make it more efficient, while learning what some of the items are that they haven't worked with yet. This is one of our cleanest, most skilled, and most complete set build yet, and it will be exciting to see the final product on stage opening night. |
