Drama I Families
In Drama I, students are currently learning about how to create characters using physical movement and telling stories through pantomime. Students picked characters and were asked to create a pantomime scene to show what would happen if their characters met in a random location, how they would react to the space, and how they would react to each other (for example, what would happen if Spongebob and Abraham Lincoln met in Antarctica). The students will begin performing the pantomimes at the end of this week, and I am excited to see the progress. This is our first real performance of the year, not only working movement skills, but also practicing focused energy and character development, laying the foundation for the rest of our work this year! Stagecraft Families
In Stagecraft we have started the set build of our Fall production of Harvey, having just finished our Tools, Materials and Theatre Safety Unit. Everyone in the class took a safety test and picked crews. If your student is in the crew of Lights, Paint, or Set they need to have a pair of their own safety glasses, these can be found at Walmart, Amazon or any Hardware Store. We have lots of work ahead of us, but the enthusiasm of the students now that we have started the build process is truly exciting!
Don’t forget to come and see the show November 15th-18th to see all of the hard work the Stagecraft Classes have put in! Stagecraft students get into the shows for the reduced price of $2!

Drama II Families
In Drama II we are currently working on auditioning and how to pick a monologue, as well as the steps and tips to give successful critiques. Students are searching for dramatic monologues to perform for the Drama III students who will then cast them for scenes they are directing. The Drama III’s are writing spooky scenes from short stories written by famous authors. They will be asked to evaluate the Drama II monologue performances, and select them to act in their scenes. Last but not least, we have the Drama IV students who are working on and will perform self-written monologues about an event that has happened to them in their life. They are learning about the monologue writing process and how to create a complete story arc within only a few minutes. These monologues will be performed at the same time as the Drama II students!
Drama Club
We have a lot of exciting things happening in Drama Club! First, we are currently taking orders for Fall 2018 Drama Club Spirit Wear. All orders and money are due by November, 1st. Have your student see Ms. Stone with any questions, and don't miss out on this awesome gear! Also, mark your calendars for our Fall Play, Harvey by Mary Chase. "Harvey, a Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy by Mary Chase, is the story of a perfect gentleman, Elwood P. Dowd, and his best friend, Harvey -- a pooka, who is a six-foot tall, invisible rabbit. When Elwood begins introducing Harvey around town, his embarrassed sister, Veta Louise, and her daughter, Myrtle Mae, determine to commit Elwood to a sanitarium. A mistake is made, however, and Veta is committed rather than Elwood! Eventually, the mistake is realized, and a frantic search begins for Elwood and the invisible pooka, which ends with Elwood appearing, voluntarily, at the sanitarium. In the end, however, Veta realizes that she loves her brother and his invisible his best friend just as they are, and doesn’t want either of them to change." DON'T MISS OUT! Tickets will be available for online purchase starting October 16th! |
