Hello Waukesha North Drama and Stagecraft Families!
My name is Kaitlin Stone and I am the Drama and Stagecraft teacher at Waukesha North, and am so excited to get to know you and your students this year! In an effort to try something a little different and increase communication between myself and families, I am going to try and give regular class and Drama Club updates on this Blog to keep families in the loop. I will attempt to update bi-weekly with information about what we are working on in class, as well as deadlines, due dates, project expectations, etc.

Drama I
Drama I students have started the year by learning about the concept of Ensemble in theatre and participating in various team building and ensemble building activities. We just finished creating our class expectations, which students will create short skits about at the end of next week, for our first Summative performance. Once we are finished with the Basic Skills and Ensemble unit, we will begin our Movement and Pantomime unit. More details on that to come!
Stagecraft
Stagecraft students start the year learning about jobs within technical theater, the theater hierarchy, and practicing teamwork skills, as we will be working in groups the majority of the year. Students started their first Summative notes portfolio, which is due the week of September 19th (official deadline listed on Google Classroom). Students will learn about the various jobs in technical theater that we will be exploring throughout the year, and practice teamwork and conflict resolution strategies to ensure we have a positive work environment for all of our students. Soon, we will begin learning about the equipment and safety precautions that need to be taken in the auditorium, and then we will be jumping into research for our first play of the year, "Blithe Spirit" by Noel Coward. Updates on the portfolio deadline and completion will be provided in the next newsletter!
Drama II/III/IV
Our Drama II/III/IV students have already had a blast getting reacquainted with one another, and we are starting to dive into our basic skills review. Students will choose scenes provided based on their level, and will rehearse and perform them over the next two weeks. Students will be completing a Formative Rehearsal Portfolio and ending with the Summative performance (date TBD). Once we are finished reviewing, we will move on to audition techniques for Drama II, and playwriting for Drama III/IV where they will get to create their own work based on a famous horror/thriller author (DIII) or social issue (DIV). Drama III's will then direct the Drama II students in what is one of our favorite projects of the year!
DRAMA CLUB
Auditions for our first play of the year, "Blithe Spirit" by Noel Coward are next week Tuesday and Thursday after school! The smash comedy hit of the London and Broadway stages, this much-revived classic from the playwright of Private Lives offers up fussy, cantankerous novelist Charles Condomine, re-married but haunted (literally) by the ghost of his late first wife, the clever and insistent Elvira who is called up by a visiting “happy medium,” one Madame Arcati. As the (worldly and un-) personalities clash, Charles’ current wife, Ruth, is accidentally killed, “passes over,” joins Elvira, and the two “blithe spirits” haunt the hapless Charles into perpetuity.
