Hello Families!
Please see the messages below from current Drama, Stagecraft, and Drama Club students about what we have been up to these last few months!
DRAMA I
We recently finished the show “The Lost Half Hour”, about Bobo, a kind but misguided simpleton, on his quest for a lost half hour. In the play, our hero travels to the edge of the planet and the deep of space on a seemingly ridiculous journey. He offers to find other impossible "lost" items, as well, such as a temper, a reputation, and a princess. Traveling as far as Mother Time, he overcomes obstacles to find everything...including himself. This unusual story is told in a highly creative fashion, teaching the students how to act in an abstract and metaphoric way, giving them a stronger insight into those skills. For the remainder of the year, we will be working on monologues to continue practicing character development and learn more about professional audition etiquette and techniques. DRAMA II
In Drama 2 we just finished our final performance of The Lottery. This specific play was directed by the Drama 4’s and performed by Drama 2’s and 3’s. It started with the lower levels auditioning for the 4’s in a proper and professional manor. Every single choice regarding the script and how it played out, was done by the Drama 4’s. Now that we finished, the Drama 2’s are working on mock auditions for a musical. They must choose 2 contradicting monologues such as sad and happy. The Drama 3’s are doing Shakespearean monologues in the original version and modern English. The Drama 4’s are doing a scene from any Shakespeare play, and all will be performed as our end of semester project. STAGECRAFT
We recently finished the last show of the year so for the past week, we have been doing strike (taking down the set, putting back props, putting back costumes) we've also conferenced with Ms. Stone about our final reflections and about our end of the year project. The end of the year project is a choice project where we get to choose a crew that we enjoy or a crew we didn't get to try, and as a group, we come up with a final product to create. For example, last year one of the set crews made a train and paint made a backdrop. The purpose of this project is to improve on a skill within the crew we feel we need more practice on and to learn about how to plan a project from start to finish. We will present the finished products during our final exam hour. -Malinda Baumer (Stagecraft student and Student Aide)
DRAMA CLUB
This year in drama has been a huge success, from Harvey, to The Addams Family: The Musical, to our last show of the 2018/2019 season Up the Down Staircase. Thank you to anyone who ever participated, built, and helped out with any of our shows this year, we can wait for further shows in the future. Our Drama Banquet is tomorrow, May 17 2019! Reminder that this is a costume themed event, make sure that you know your groups and to get your costumes ready for a fun night of awards, pizza, and games. This goes from 6:00 to about 10:30. We do have a couple lost and found items that have accumulated from the past year, make sure to stop into the auditorium and look through the stuff to see if you have anything missing. Again thanks for such an amazing year of shows, we all can’t wait for the 2019 fall show! -Mya Baumer (Drama Club member, Student Aide, and Stagecraft student)
